Welcome Home to Casa Santo Antão

Updated: Dec 20, 2021

I don't know many places in Portugal, but each time I visit a new place, I fall in love with the magic that emanates from each place, and this time I will tell you, about a place that I know would be marked in my heart forever.

Last week I left Lisbon, heading to the north of Portugal, to visit Portela do Fojo, more technically Pampilhosa da Serra, after a trip of almost 3 hours ( we travelled during the end of the day), and when we arrived the day was already dark, we cannot see the beauty of the place that I want to tell you about.

When we arrived we could only see a small house with parking for two cars. The house was in a rural location, and only the lights of the house could be seen in the middle of the dark night. The night was beautiful with a bright full moon, we were greeted by the homeowner, and let me tell you, one of the best check-ins we have ever had.

The joy and love we have been received are inexplicable, we marvel at such affection from someone who never seen us.

Having shown us the house and pointed us where we could dine nearby, she left us alone in a house wherein every space, wall, and corner we felt the history of the family from that house, we felt the love, and life of the Legacy this couple built there. A house that once belonged to the grandparents of the owner, and from what we can understand from the affection that he and his wife kept the house, that all the memories, stories and his childhood were all marked by love in each wall of the house.

That night when we got home from dinner we ended up drinking home-made Agua Ardente accompanied by homemade cinnamon biscuits, we fell asleep with a smile in the face and full of love in our hearts.

The next day we woke up with a wonderful smell from the breakfast she prepared. My God!!! There was everything! Juice, tea, homemade bread, fruit, cereals, coffee, parties, cakes, pastries, pancakes, a lot, I can tell you. I couldn't taste everything but what I tasted filled not only my stomach but my heart.

What an unforgettable and unique experience. After breakfast, the sun was shining, and I took the opportunity to see the rest of the house. I visit the family museum, where we can find everything about the history of the family, from work utensils to a small bed that shows how old this legacy has.

The exterior is also memorable, plantation fields where we see vegetables growing in the open, and small relaxation areas with hammocks that float in a green lawn that is noted to have been treated with love and care, the pool area is so well cared for and Creatively well thought out that the shower is a tree trunk with a garden watering can on top, where we can turn on the tap and water flows from the watering can.

The villa has 3 en-suite bedrooms, a relaxing and warm living room, a dining room and a lounge with a snooker table.

But if you want to venture into nature, the house has bicycles for guests. In the days we spent at Casa Santo Antão, we decided to stay in the house, so we have lunch and dinner in the house, and I can tell you, it's like living a trilogy of tasting. From breakfast, through lunch, and ending at dinner, we are taken on an unforgettable gastronomic adventure.

On the eve of our return to Lisbon, the owner of the establishment came to say goodbye to us at the end of dinner, and soon I knew, we were sad because we knew we would miss this rural paradise.

The next day we left early in the morning to enjoy and see the landscape, and it was just 2 minutes after we came across the imposing view of the Zêzere River, let me tell you, Portugal is a paradise in Europe. Even with signs of the event that was the fires that happen in that area, we witness the very natural beauty of Portugal.

My God !!! I was speechless, my heartbeat went quietly, what a sight ... We were in love, and even more inspired. A masterpiece of God! I think all people, tourists and nationals have to visit this place once and feel what we felt in Portela do Fojo.

We invite everyone to visit Casa de Santo Antão, a house full of family history, ready to welcome you as a family.

Visit, because even the House slogan is: "Welcome Home".

Thank you to everyone at Casa de Santo Antão for having received us and made us feel welcome. #casadesantoantao #portugalparadise #europeparadise #lisbonholidays #brandholidays #brandblog
